Join The School Board

New York State requirements for BOE state that a candidate must be a US Citizen, at least 18 years old, a qualified voter in the school district, able to read and write, and a resident of the district continuously for one year before the election. Candidates cannot be employed by the board on which they will serve or live in the same household with a family member who is also a member of the same school board.

In addition to these requirements, the CNC seeks candidates who have a general interest in education, a belief in the public school system, the ability to work well with others and who understand and are able and willing to execute faithfully the duties of a member of the Board of Education. Candidates should understand that the role of a BOE trustee is a nonpartisan role and not be motivated by personal or political agendas. Furthermore, in the judgment of the CNC, the candidate demonstrates knowledge of current local community issues as they affect the Pelham educational system.

The CNC will consider the composition of the Board with respect to representation for each local school area. The CNC will not consider for selection and nomination any elected public official or any principal officer of an organized political party. The CNC will consider incumbent Board members, available for re-nomination, on the same basis as any other eligible person without regard to their status as an incumbent.

The BOE candidate application for CNC nomination is posted below. The deadline to submit applications is 8pm on Friday, March 17th. All BOE candidate interviews will be held during the weeks of March 20th and 27th (if needed). The deadline for candidates to file nominating petitions with the District Clerk is April 17th. The Budget Vote and BOE Election is May 16th.
